I have been a Health Education teacher at McHenry H.S. for thirty-two years. Im currently in my thirty-third and last school year before retirement.
I began shooting landscapes about twenty-three years ago. I started with 35mm format, went to medium format for a short time, and then made the jump to large format (4x5) about sixteen years ago, and have shot that format almost exclusively since.
I have traveled the United States extensively, and have photographed most of our best scenic areas. In the past few years, I have developed an extensive portfolio of nearly three hundred images of landscapes in McHenry County and surrounding areas.
I sold my first image in 1987. Since then, my images have been published by Impact Photographic and Great Mountain West Supply Company as postcards, in calendars, in books and commercial publications. They have also been the cover shots for multiple Outdoor Illinois and American Hiking Society magazines. They have also appeared in Chicago Wilderness magazine and other CW publications.
In 2004, I won the Grand Prize for the Outdoor Illinois (Illinois Department of Natural Resources) Photo Contest and also received two honorable mentions in the scenic/flora category. One of my Illinois Beach State Park winter images was used that year as the cover shot for the first ever all photo issue of Outdoor Illinois.
A year later, I won the Grand Prize for the 2005 National Landscape Conservation System Photo Contest held by The Wilderness Society and other conservation groups. I also took first place in that same contest for the state of Utah with a photo of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
The originals for all my images are extremely fine-grained 4x5 Velvia color transparencies. I have many of the images professionally scanned and printed into large fine art prints by Photocraft Labs in Boulder, Colorado, the same lab used by many of the most prominent landscape photographers in the country.
I make all my
images available free of charge to all non-profit groups,
especially those promoting conservation of the natural
world. I would also like to initiate programs for patient
care facilities, making fine art prints available at cost
for those wishing to donate such prints to such
